
The 3d histogram was one of Third Ave's first projects. We announced it in November 2007. The concept still serves us well, I believe: The 3d histogram is a visualizer for the color composition of images. It plots the frequencies of each color from an image within a three-dimensional space that fits the entire color spectrum by using the red, green, and blue color components as the three axes.
I'm taking another look at it, rethinking, retooling, and revising. I'd like to make it more adaptable, so that it can be used outside of 3dhistogram.com and as an embedded applet or an offline application. There are a few features that would be nice too: the ability to save a screenshot of the color model, and to load images to analyze from URLs. See below for a preview of the progress:
